This is probably the only situation where it’s cool to play with broken glass shards.
SEATTLE — Molly Schwartz’s artistic process involves hitting glass with a hammer, and dangerous as that might sound, the result is pretty striking.
Schwartz paints glass, attaches it to a wood board with resin, then shatters the glass and pours paint until she’s satisfied with the outcome. The results are pieces with amazing depth and color. Although Schwartz sketches out her initial ideas, she says the outcomes are always unpredictable. Schwartz’s pieces are currently on display at Schoener Home Furnishings in Bellevue.
Schwartz joins New Day Northwest to show us how to shatter some glass (safely) to make art.
